my god, pulling off that show was the most stress/work/bullshit than just about any other show i've done...this time was [info]twiin's first time handling ALL the immigration issues on his own [unfortunately it's also given him a whole new level of appreciation for all the immigration horror stories i've told him over the years; it's a whole other level of bureaucratic hell, trust me], and of course it had to be the time when it appeared as if, at one point in time, all 3 bands wouldn't be allowed over the border to play, all for separate reasons no less...after almost 20 hours on the phone [[info]twiin got no actual work work done at work that day...workity work work!], hours of various degrees of paperwork hell all the while 16 Volt was stuck at the border while Cyanotic was someplace else, unable to cross over because their vehicle registration had expired and the DMV was closed, etc. etc. we finally got ALL bands across...

then today comes and a whole other whack'o'crap happens that threatens the show all over again, just when we thought we were done with stressful bullshit...fuck.

but when it was all said and done, we got all the bands over the border and to the bar, got soundcheck finished only half an hour late and managed to pull off one of the best received, most energetic, fun shows i've ever put on...but fucking hell if only people knew the unbelievable amount of crap that went on before we could make it happen...or how many times it looked like the show just wouldn't happen...seriously unfuckingbelievable.

i couldn't be happier with the folks who came out too; the crowd was fucking awesome tonight, and as always they don't even realize just how much of a great impression they leave the bands with...band members spoke to me at length about how awesome the people were, and how this is the best show they've played on the tour so far...everyone who came out should pat themselves on the back for not only helping to support truly underground music, but for showing just how musically open-minded and non-scenester-bullshit-oriented a crowd can really be...the bands were blown away by how awesome you guys were, and the folks who've played here before were so happy to be back...what a fucking night.

why am i not riddled with ulcers again?
complete and total dumb luck, that's why not...

I've been following 16volt since 1993 and it was awesome to finally see Eric on stage and performing 15 years later. I love that he covered so much ground instead of just playing from his latest album (although he didn't skimp on new material either, I particularly loved Cables & Wires).

Cyanotic was a really fun show too - a lot of their pre 2.0 material doesn't appeal to me recorded, but works really well live.

A++ - Would come out and kick ass again.

thanks so much for coming; sorry i couldn't hang out much....Cyanotic have come a long way, and have seen a recent hearty increase in their cohesion and skill as a band...they're 2 full albums in now, and have a much more solid grasp on their material, as well as the increase in confidence that comes with developing your sound and finding the areas where you feel most comfortable playing...this has all added to their abilities to improv and expand on their material live, so i find that there is a marked difference between what they sound like now and what that album sounds like...i hope this comes through on the next recording so you get the 'truer' sound of Cyanotic, and i'm pretty confident it will :)

everyone's asleep but they have to be up at 9:30 [everyone mostly crashed around 5:30ish] so i, feeling masochistic apparently, opted to stay up and make everyone breakfast 'cause Jairus leaves with Cyanotic for a few dates [he was supposed to play with them last night but the crap that came up cost us 3 hours of prep time, so he had no time to prepare the material...]...why do i do this to myself again? :)

thanks again for coming!!

however! all that stress built up made for a spectacularly drunken Jairus as he celebrated us actually pulling the show off with many an alcoholic adventure...to top off the night, as i pulled up the car in front of the club to load out, he asked me to pop the trunk and then where and what was getting loaded out...i told him [all the food and foodstuffs as well as the music, but i'd packed it all up and grouped it all together, so easy, right...?], and he went back inside the club...15ish minutes later, he comes back to the car, closes the trunk and gets in, telling me we're all good to go...

so i go.

i go home.

wanting to load the food in the fridge asap, i pop the trunk...to find it COMPLETELY EMPTY...he forgot EVERYTHING...heheheh...what i don't get is, when he walked back to the car, saw an EMPTY TRUNK, why he didn't just think, even for a moment, that something wasn't quite right...

our cleaning woman Helen will have a feast! :)

I am happy that everything went so well for you. I just wish I wasn't 0 for 3 trying to get the nights off these shows are being thrown! Sounds like everyone had a great time though. Well done.

i hate to say it, but i think you would have LOVED the show :(

HOWEVER it was the best show of this tour so far according to 16v and Cyanotic, and both bands are eager to come back already...16v have been trying to make it for 15 years and last night was their first canadian show ever, so they've got a lot of time to make up for, and Cyanotic LOVE playing here [plus with Jairus in Cyanotic it kinda makes it a done deal that they'll play again]...you were missed last night, but luckily the likelihood of those 2 bands playing again is exceptionally high, so i'm sure you haven't missed a once in a lifetime chance or anything....so if you think of it, the only thing you really missed is the vibe of the crowd last night [which was large and incredibly happy/excited/interactive] and while it was AWESOME, having another awesome night with the crowd on tuesdays isn't a rare thing either...so you'll get a chance to see the bands again, and it sure sounded like you needed the downtime...i bet you were so wiped that if you had dragged yourself out, you wouldn't have had the kind of night you should have anyhow, and that would have been a shame, you know? :)

OH and after everything was done, Bella Morte loved playing here too, so we mentioned you guys for a goth show in the future possibly...the folks who came for them really seemed to love their set too!

ok i'll stop babbling now...and if i ever get a night off ever again, i'll finally be able to come out to your night again! we've been swamped and we are REALLY disappointed we haven't been able to make it out like we have wanted to lately...sucks we can't be there like we want to...but i bet moving to saturdays will work out for you guys...you know, i bet with some promo/flyering etc. you could get a chance to get some folks out who haven't been able to get out to a clubnight for years since it's been so long since Ottawa had a weekend clubnight...so hopefully you'll be surprised with new faces..and if we can help AT ALL with promo generally and specifically for your new saturdays starting, let us know? we'd love to help more!

wow, no sleep apparently makes it so i just won't shut up! who knew? ;)

I know I would have loved the show. I have seen Bella Morte before when they played Oktobenfest in Toronto and I love Cyanotic's music. And missing any bands first show in a new country is always sad.

The good part is that I am FINALLY MOVING TO DAYS! :D At least for the summer so I can get out to the remain shows on the concert series.

For Saturdays, Jeff and I are planning on doing a bunch of fliers and posters. Should have new stuff by this weekend for handbills and there are already some posters up in the market - assuming they haven't already been covered.

So glad to hear that the community came together for you on this one. There have been far too many "let down" stories over the years for the heroic efforts you engage in to bring quality folks to Ottawa to share their art.
