oh and...there's always one more...
with this post i am not remotely interested in hearing replies about whether you like/hate filesharing, whether you use/boycott it, whether you blame/credit it for any negative/positive impact; i have no interest in any of that, mainly because it's not only all been said ad nauseum, but most importantly because these arguments are all entirely moot anyhow...i'm not writing this to voice an opinion that would endorse/condemn, and please if all you want to do is regurgitate more of the same 'downloading is killing music!' or any other value judgment, please move along because you are clearly missing the point entirely...and what would that point be?
it's quite simple, really.
re: filesharing/downloading/PTP transfer etc.: it's here, it's everywhere and is part of developing technology shared and available to everyone...so the bottom line is this:
you cannot put the genie back in the bottle
that being said, whether you love or hate it, you're going to have to live with it and in living with it, wouldn't it serve everyone better on all sides of these arguments to find ways to work with new technologies, to find and develop new approaches and methods of growing and adapting to change instead of wasting all this energy on trying to assign blame, trying to further limit or remove our freedoms, or in the utterly futile attempts to figure out a way to turn back time and globally un-learn our technological breakthroughs instead?
instead of pushing for the criminalization of the vast majority of all members of society, instead of putting even more money in the hands of major labels, lawyers and censorship bureaus, instead of punishing and criminalizing music fans or people curious enough to try out some new band or sound, would it be so bad to try to learn and maybe even advance, adapt and expand your knowledge and experience in dealing with newer technological advancements?
so love it or hate it, i really don't want to hear about it anymore...for one, simply because it's entirely useless to waste any more time or energy on these arguments...so i say if you care, if you feel this has any impact on you at all, then you'd be best served to getting on learning and working with new technologies as soon as possible, because that's the only way you can gain control and take charge of how filesharing et. al. affects you...relatively speaking these technologies are in their infancy, so you have the opportunity to get in on the 'ground floor' now and impact how these technologies are managed, and so there is no better time to let these arguments drop and start learning and taking control by managing and impacting these technological advancements instead of wasting all this energy on the impossibility of turning back time or the harm of further criminalization, punishment and removal of our rights and freedoms.
see? i've always got more to bitch about, trust me ;)
